Event Description

Gleeson Library invites you to celebrate Latine Heritage Month by exploring the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Latine communities. Throughout the month, we’ll feature curated book displays and digital resources that highlight voices from across the Spanish-speaking world—including authors, activists, scholars, and artists.
We will also be showcasing work from students in the Casa Madriz Living Learning Community, who explored testimonio—a Latin American narrative genre rooted in struggle, survival, and resilience amid oppression. By conducting interviews and transforming them into multimodal creations, such as podcasts, videos, comics, or posters, students gave voice to stories that are often silenced or overlooked in official histories. Through this process, they not only learned about the power of testimonio as a form of resistance and remembrance, but also experienced the vulnerability, responsibility, and creativity that come with carrying the stories of their families and communities forward.
