Event Description

Jane Austen's 250th Birthday Display

Gleeson Library invites you to help us celebrate the 250th birthday of Jane Austen by reading and appreciating her literary works. Starting in November, check out the book display that highlights her most well-known work, along with a few other scholarly works that dissect the impact of Austen’s work, including non-traditional readings.

Jane Austen is one of the pioneers of the modern novel, and in the 250 years since her birth, she has become one of the most influential and popular writers of all time. Her female characters in particular are known for their independence of mind and wit, and her novels offer a sharp and incisive social commentary. Her body of work is notable for its satire and stylistic innovation, and demonstrates a deep understanding of the subtleties of human feeling that continues to resonate with readers to this day.

This display is curated by the English department in partnership with the Gleeson Library.
